| Hey There!
I just felt like there's some beneficial information that I want to share with you and others that you may know. =].
First of all-- don't forget to submit your FAFSA by March 2nd! (or the
1st so it's a Friday). I don't think you'd want to give up on free
money for your educational expenses -- in which the prices for tuition
is constantly increasing.
NEVER go to www.fafsa.com because they will CHARGE you to apply.
go to www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to fill out your form
[i know that most of you may know the information already -- but feel
free to pass it on to those that may not know it- such as people
younger than you that you know through HS or organizations =] ]
Secondly, this caters for those students who are currently in community
college, are planning to attend community college, or know of friends
who are in a CC. Instead of paying for your course units, which is
around $20 nowadays, per class, you can apply for the
CCC (CA Community Collge) Board of Governor's Fee Waiver
if you meet the requirements- which is located at : http://academic.cuesta.edu/finaid/bogw.htm
Be sure to share the information with the people you know!! You can
renew/apply for it anytime during the year. If you already paid for
your courses- which i'm sure most people did- you can apply for it and
then get reimbursed for the amount you paid!!! -- cool huh? =]
This will make going to CC a lot easier since you're pretty much
getting a full ride to CC -- and then you can transfer to a diff.
college if you'd like knowing that you saved some money. All you have
to pay for are your books and possibly transportation =p.
Additionally, for those who are current or former foster youth that are
attending or will attend college or vocational training at any
accredited college in the U.S. based on available funding can apply for
the
California Chafee Grant, if they are between the ages of 16-25.
You can find the application at : https://www.chafee.csac.ca.gov/
If there are special circumstances within your family -- contact the Financial Aid Office of the school of your choice.
For the students who have a social scurity and an Alien Registration Number (ARN), they could also apply for FAFSA.
For the students who don't have documentation -- there is a way to get funding by filling out the
AB540 Form, only if they've been in CA for 3 years and is a High School graduate. -- It is in-state tuition and an affadative.
For more information -- look at : http://www.maldef.org/ab540/ab540.cfm
ALSOO there are places where families can get help for filling out the
Tax Refund Form help for free! you'd have to search for one in your
local area.
=))
I hope you found these information helpful!
I received these information through a FAFSA Training from East Bay
Consortium (EBC), which is an excellent organization, in addition to
KDOL, Upward Bound, and Summer Search =)) -- all of which serves the
underprivileged students through academic and personal assistance.

Err... the thing i hate is the budget cuts that are affecting the
funding of these helpful organizations.. Can't people see that
education is important for everyone?? Everyone should have an equal
chance of obtaining their education despite financial difficulties. The
reason most people do not attend college is not because people don't
think they can handle college - it's mainly because they can't afford
it because it's sooooo expensive. I hate it that organizations which
are really beneficial to students, who are the future leader of today's
society that we live in, are constantly being in threat of funding so
that the money can go to certain other things- even to places/things
that happen behind the scene, from my opinion. =/
As for me, i'm thankful where I am today -- and i want to make it so
that most people get to be where I am today -- a college student
striving for success and attempting to make a social change in this
society through education and persistence. | | |
| it's getting late i've been spending a lot of time on the internet, instead of doing my ochem, stats, or reading for soc class..
whats been on my mind? recently-- like a few hours ago - i was checking my emails and saw the weekly newsletters from fastweb.com that i often dont open.. but i did today. and i totally forgot all the resources that they provide-- thinking it was jus scholarships - but nope! they have soo much more. whether its colleges catering to ur interests, resume skills, how to find out what u want to do in ur career.. etc. i found that more important than doing my hw that i can be doing tomorrow ---- after i go rock climbing, and before i eat dinner with my roomie from last year! =]--- but yes.. its really helpful and i recommend that you check it out
also.... today! i made a presentation for upward bound with other Gates Scholars from my organization [gates millennium scholars association] to talk about the scholarship and the resources that are out there for them.. its all about being proactive in this world.. things don't come easily to you. i learned that in highschool! and i am starting to act on it now.. i have some goals in mind that i will accomplish by the deadline that i set up =].. when i finish it. =] then i met up with my ISSUES committee members from last semester.. it was nice catching up with everyone! its been so long..
i have been considering a lot about the things that i am involved with, and always deciding which is more important, catering to my purposes of joining [giving back to the community and creating strong social relationships as friends and meeting new ppl], and effective... and also - deciding what things i should do in my time that i would replace over studying for my classes [one reason why its so low.. not as much time spent as a person who does no activities at all and jus academics =x] and i've come to realize some things.. which may be common for some ppl....tho i dont want it to be an issue.
money has always been one. i hate that it is. i grew to dislike it altho its necessary to purchase materialistic things and to get by in life. its totally blocking away other important things.. like family, frens, community, etc... but everyone has different standards and values.. but most ppl i know in college are in for making the big money after graduating.. i understand and i want the same.. but not more than i need. altho its good to live nicely with many resources for the children...... but im the kind of person who grew up to believing that i should be happy and fortunate for what i have... i didnt go to fenton's today for the challenge because of many reasons -financial, nutrition, and purpose. i like to savour my food, esp. ice cream =P i have some in my fridge. =] im gonna use my money for things i need - like food, shopping on certain occasions, paying rent, and other things that i need..... but not crazy. always wanting new things, keeping up with fashion, the newest technology, etc.. that's jus not me. i know some ppl here that are all for that... i guess it really does matter about the background in which u grew up and are accustomed to...
i learned a lot in college. the core classes that i like are sociology, psychology, asian american studies, and public health.. i havent taken classes in education and nutritional science yet -- but i will soon to hopefully. =], and also learning about other ethnic backgrounds.. it's the place to learn and grow.. i might be getting interested in the policy world.. since that affects everyone the most. i hav a strong desire to help uplift my community.. make sure there's equality for alll.. esp the underserved community.. thats for sure. everything i've been doing is catering to that. im finding my way to my future career..
i love speaking with ppl. working with ppl. meeting new ppl. trying new things. being adventurous and daring when the situation comes. travelling to new places. adapting to new environments easily. i have a love of learning.. esp about issues that pertain to me and my community.. i love so much more.. but i'll keep some to myself =]
thats it for now.. time to get to work and then sleep..
Sleep is good! be sure to get enough of it.. let ur body rest =]
Exercise is good too.. im gonna be doing that frequently....
check out www.fastweb.com! it's awesome =]
and inform high school seniors/studnts about the gates scholarship! www.gmsp.org due January 11, 08. FULL RIDE scholarship paying for undergrad AND grad school for certain majors!
=))))
have a good one

| havent been here in awhilee.. few things have been going on
last night, i watched Finishing the Game, and independent film produced by Justin Lin and many Asian American Actors. They are really great since their product [movie] comes from their passion of acting and not for the money - since they have a low-budget to work with since they aren't funded by Hollywood - tho they initially wanted to if Justin created a movie about Asians playing the typical role of fighting like the mains: bruce lee, jet li, jackie chan.. But no. he wanted a movie with his own script for his own people. And that he did- while also precisely portraying the racial stereotypes/how people were treated in the past- which is similar today. It's a good movie if u watch closely to whats going on!
I got to meet part of the crew personally. I met/saw Sung Kang [from fast and the furious, better luck tomorrow, the war? with jet li], Roger Fan- who played Breeze, and Evan Leong. They are pretty chill guys who love talking to their supporters. they have been traveling for quite some time -going to places to premier their movies. thats awesome. =] do check them out in the movies! if you're interested.
Besides that.. i'm gonna be getting braces soon! probably within 1st week of November - hopefully right after my midterms. i heard its gonna hurt =X. heh owell.. nicer teeth/smile for when i graduate! =]
It's that time of college apps/scholarships.. so for me, i'm trying to with with my group, GMSA [gates millennium scholars association] to plan to make some presentations. I really do want to make one for Summer Search and Upward Bound. Ahh so many changes will most likely occur within the group.. It seems i choose/am elected to become prez when something's going on.. and i like to take the role and challenge myself. which i am currently doing. in high school, i knew i was interested in lion dancing as a child - so i decided to become prez my junior year, tho Ms. Walrath was pregnant and would not be around as much -- i was willing to take the role and be persistent in asking questions and calling schools to set up appointments and following back. It all turned out well. I just hope that its still going well.. i dont want Lion Dance club to fall.. Similar to how I am now the prez of GMSA.. which is just starting out. I wasn't in a leadership role in college until then -- i was in 2 committees.. which might have helped be gain more responsibilities and openness in talking.. but it happens within me. changes.. not all of the officers attend the meeting. which is horrible.=/ but yeahh.. mm i'll talk bout it later mayb heh.
Other than that.. midterms are coming soon again. school work! i need to focus more time on my studies instead of going out as much. but i love service and Circle K heheee. Asian American Association is also a good club.. mainly based on social aspect with the purpose of also working together and informing the community about what is going on. I support both. I've also been spending some time with Cal Undegrad Public Health Coalition. Nice people, good purpose, good experiences. So yeahhh hehe been involved! not working as much at Fairyland anymore - but i'll be at the Jamboree! working. heh. =p Halloween is comingg.. people wana dress up =p theres a dance.. house party.. and the real thing!
Time is flying. it wont slow down. gotta pick up the pace and follow the wind. create your own path. everyone is one's own agent in directing where one will turn out.
i've been fine.. feeling randomly sad/confused/happy at times. heh but wen im with people.. that goes away. love hanging out with my friends.. i'll be seeing them tonight! =)) . and yeapps okay. back to work...
take care
